Kaieteur News – The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party supporter, Helen Kashi, who’s Corentyne, Berbice home was allegedly burglarized by a Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) supporter has dropped the case.
According to Police, Kashi dropped the case against the accused who was released on station bail following his arrest.
“Be informed that at about 14:00 hours today (Thursday), Helen Kashi, a 54-year-old female part-time worker and We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) activist of Corentyne, Berbice, returned to the Police Station in the company of the suspect, Rameshwar Ramdat, a 32-year-old part-time worker and PPP/C activist of Corentyne, Berbice.
Kashi provided a further statement in which she requested no further police action, stating that she did not see who damaged her table, nor could she say who was responsible for the missing items (gold chain and cash),” police said.
Kaieteur News reported on Thursday that the man was arrested on Wednesday for breaking into and vandalising the woman’s home at Number 19 Village, Corentyne Berbice, Region Six.
Kashi told police that the man verbally abused her and threatened to burn her house down on Tuesday night because she supported WIN.
The woman had claimed that she was at her mother’s home on Tuesday when the suspect, dressed in his party’s clothing, verbally abused her for supporting WIN. She further alleged that the man, who was accompanied by some other persons, even threatened to burn her house down.
Fearful, Kashi stated that she did not go home, but spent the night at her mother’s home.
The following day around 07:00hrs. (Wednesday) she went to her home only to find it ransacked and her clothes and other belongings thrown outside.
A gold chain valued $22,000 and $23,000 in cash were also missing from her home. A makeshift table attached to her home was also partially scorched.
