Kaieteur News – On Saturday, the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) held its final elections campaign rally at the Lusignan Market tarmac, making last-ditch efforts to appeal to the electorate ahead of the elections tomorrow.
Several of the party’s top brass made presentations in front of the large crowd, where they outlined and highlighted all of the reasons why the PPP was the party that deserved their votes.
President Irfaan Ali in his address encouraged his supporters to vote overwhelmingly for the PPP/C.
“Let us vote in Unity. Let us vote in strength. Let us vote in overwhelming numbers. And if you feel frustrated, stick to the line. Stay with the process. Your vote is more important than the frustration. If you have to wait in the line, be patient, your vote is more important than that wait,” he urged.
The president urged supporters to hold firm while noting that the party will try its best to provide transportation to those in need but reminded that the onus is on them to vote.
Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips told supporters that it is under the PPP/C government that Guyana is no longer “a fully indebted country”. He reminded that achievement is owed in large part to President Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.
“They work in those ministries, and they have returned Guyana to solvency, Guyana is no longer fully indebted country. Guyana is the most sought-after country for foreign direct investment in the world today, thanks to these two gentlemen, everybody wants to lend us money,” he boasted.
PM Phillips reminded that Guyana is now considered the fastest growing economy in the world making it more open to business.
“The whole world, everybody wants to lend us money. In Guyana, we’re the fastest growing economy. And guess what, not only the fastest growing economy, we producing enough food to feed everybody in Guyana,” he said.
He continued: “Comrades, Guyana is now in a leadership position. You talk about climate security, climate resilience. Who do they turn to Guyana? You talk about food security. Who is leading food security in CARICOM? Guyana, you talk about energy security. Guyana is there, leading again, and you will benefit from all the policies and all the successes in Guyana from 2026,” he said.
Meanwhile, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall, SC spoke of his party’s experience and qualifications. He said, in comparison to the other parties’ it is “chalk to cheese”.
“Comrades you cannot gamble at this elections…No complacency, no carelessness, every single vote must count,” he pleaded.
The politician urged, “Let us pledge here tonight that we will now work from tonight to Monday morning to bring out every single voter to take them to the polling station, to ensure that they vote, to ensure that our votes are counted, and then to help us swear in, the current and the next President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali.”
In like fashion, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, called on supporters to be on high alert from now until Monday as there will be lots of fake news circulating. He suggested that social media activists will be working overtime to spread misinformation.
“They will tell you all the PPP just killed 10 persons there, that they are criticizing Afro- Guyanese… that they hate all sorts of people. Watch out for the rumours, between now and election night, all the Norman Browns and the Rickford Burkes and the Melly Mels and everyone else. Watch out,” he warned.
Jagdeo called on the supporters to ignore the naysayers and focus on the endgame. “Don’t fall for that. Don’t fall for them bullying people or threatening that there will be violence, because the security forces will deal with them when they attempt to disrupt the boat. Watch out!” he said.
