Leader of the WIN Party, Azruddin Mohamed speaking at his party’s rally in Linden on Wednesday night.
Kaieteur News – Presidential hopeful and leader of the WIN Party, Azruddin Mohamed has pledged to create job opportunities for residents of Region 10 by establishing a glass factory and an aluminum plant, should his party be elected to government.
According to the businessman, “This region needs jobs, young people need opportunities and rest assured, we want to set up an aluminum plant here.” “All the bauxite going out the country but we going to ensure that the bauxite going out to make the same aluminum products, so we will be setting up a factory here so our people will get jobs, we will train our people and our people can even be shareholders in these companies,” he told a large gathering of his supporters.
The second project he highlighted that will “empower” the people, is a glass factory, which he said would not only create jobs but bring in more revenues, “more money will be circulated in Region 10.”
Catering for young people, another project he announced is that WIN intends to build a University of Guyana campus in the region. “Linden is the heartland of Guyana and the WIN movement will show you how we will transform Linden, we will transform Linden. When I take office, I am going to ensure that the people of this country get a larger cash grant in time for Christmas,” he announced.
Meanwhile, speaking on the many police killings that have blighted the mining community over the years, Mohamed said he will ensure that the Commissioner of Police and the Commander “get it right.” “We are not going to tolerate them…If you go out and protest peacefully, you have a right to protest peacefully. We are not going to tolerate them things and I won’t tolerate my ministers to call no Commander, no Commissioner for favours. Police got to do to police work, this is the only way we will get law and order in this country,” he expressed.
Among other issues that his party plans to address in Region 10, are reliable water supply, regularise house lots issues and build homes for the vulnerable. According to Mohamed, WIN will upgrade the hospital in Linden to international standards so that people do not have to go to Georgetown for health services. Mohamed also listed some of their plans and initiatives which they have launched in their campaign manifesto, which he said would change the lives of people.
