Dear Editor,
Voters should assess the 2025 election by records, not rhetoric. APNU+AFC’s 2015 manifesto promised to end corruption and raise salaries, yet the Auditor General found billions of dollars missing and an undeclared US$18 million oil bonus. The coalition added VAT on electricity and water and closed several sugar estates, throwing thousands out of work.
By contrast, the PPP/C largely kept its 2020 promises. It allocated over 50,000 house lots, reinstated the “Because We Care” school grant – now $200,000 per child with a $100,000 transportation grant – and removed VAT on essential services, injecting billions back into households. University tuition will be free from 2025. Old‑age pensions more than doubled, rising from $20,500 to $41,000, and President Ali now pledges to lift pensions to $60,000 and give every pensioner a $50,000 transportation grant. These policies come amid surging oil‑driven growth, tripling per‑capita income.
As a 40‑year‑old father with a 39‑year‑old wife and two children, we prioritise jobs, education and support for seniors. The PPP/C’s record of delivering its manifesto and managing public finances contrasts sharply with APNU+AFC’s broken promises and mismanagement. Guyanese should vote based on each party’s record.
Sincerely,
Sunil Jadoo
