Philistines in Palestine
Kaieteur News – Children are dying by the thousands in the Gaza, and the world ignores what is now a daily holocaust. Most of the world is now occupied with the new costs of doing business with America in America. In the so-called civilized world, money takes precedence over women and children dying from starvation and the destruction wreaked by their silence.
Where are the global statesmen and stateswomen while people are being mowed down as they wait in line for food? They are busy talking about some imaginary ceasefire while the blood of innocents and martyrs flow in the streets. Men soothe their consciences by pretending to be working towards some fantasy ceasefire, while hungry human beings drop like fleas. They spar and comfort themselves with concerned words, and all the while the hollowness of their efforts can be summed up in a sentence or two. Children dying by the thousands, men and women driven to abject desperation by terror from a constant rain of Israeli bombs and bullets. Many of those weapons, those instruments of indiscriminate death, are made in the US. Convenient American silence, the steady flow of US support, facilitate the mass killings, the horrors of a genocide that is going on for close to two years.
So, who are the brutish Philistines, the modern-day barbarians, now? Who are the ones claiming to be the Chosen people of God, and who are the ones made into sons of Cain, which means that the only fate that is good for them is death, and by every means conceivable? It is a repetition of what was once said over two centuries ago in the violent Southwest of America: the only good Indian is a dead Indian. Since no one has had the honesty and courage to say it openly, then we say it for them: in the eyes of most of the civilized world, the only good Palestinian is a dead Palestinian. Sick and starving, homeless and penniless, are not enough. Killing them from the air, killing them the shadows, and killing them in the plain sight of the rest of the world, and a start is made to sating the Israeli blood lust, to cool their thirst for appalling violence and vengeance.
In the light of all that has been unleashed against the Palestinian people since October 7, 2023, who are the animals and war criminals and who are the victims of calculated brutalities, and Nazi-like killing efficiency? There have been half-hearted attempts at UN resolutions, while those who are quick to remind the world of the Geneva Convention, are now the perpetrators of some of the worst atrocities, this side of the Second World War. It is not of a world that has gone mad, but of one that condones the madness of the Israelis against the Palestinians.
Why isn’t there the will to stand genuinely and comprehensively for the Palestinians and totally against the destruction of their rights, their lives? The Native Americans are in the best position to provide the answer to that question. Their own way of life that once was, the blight of their current conditions, speaks to how they were callously and systematically decimated, and then pushed out of their sacred lands. The South Africans that reflect the colour of the so-called Dark Continent have their own history to relay, and the barbarisms that were part of their daily humiliations. The destroyers and oppressors of the Native Americans and the Black South Africans to this day like to tell the world of how generous they are with aid and kind considerations. From the Trail of Tears to the reservations, from apartheid to economic exploitation, those are common bonds that link the brutalized generations from East to West.
To these two grisly histories of peoples violated and victimized, there are abundant grounds on which to add the Palestinians of Gaza. From their own lands, they are kicked to those lands that absorb them to their new life of unwelcomed refugees. Palestinians are the casualties of an evil war that shames the civilized, what should make men toss in their sleep from the nightmares they supported. Who are the Philistines, who are the spawns of Satan?
