Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – The recent statement that the amount of the contract awarded to the Dominican company for work to support GPL is a small amount is ludicrous. When you consider the labour bill for GuySuco, the continual annual losses and the required government interventions we must ensure that every dollar we have goes a long way.
Getting the best value for our money must remain important. Anyone who says that millions of U.S being spent annually is a small amount that should not be of concern is obviously being wasteful and does not appreciate the value of money. We must ensure that a competitive bidding process is adhered to and always used, with at least 3 bidders and we must also allow for multiple suppliers when the work being done is critical to our nation’s development. The 80: 20 rule may be successful in such an arrangement. Remember, a fool and his money are soon parted. We cannot afford to have fools lead our country.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
