Teacher collapses, dies while speaking at PPP meeting in Bartica

Kaieteur news- The Headteacher of Three Miles Secondary School, Bartica collapsed and died Monday night while addressing a Peoples Progressive Party Civic elections campaign meeting in the town.

There has been an outpouring of grief at the news of Williams’ death. His party in a statement said: “It is with deep sadness and profound shock that the People’s Progressive Party Civic mourns the sudden passing of Daniel Williams, head teacher of Three Mile Secondary School in Bartica and a candidate of the PPP/C for the upcoming elections.”

The PPP said Williams collapsed while addressing a public meeting in Agatash, Region 7, and was later pronounced dead by medical authorities. “Daniel was an educator and community leader whose unwavering dedication to improving the lives of those around him will be remembered by all who had the honour of knowing him. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, students, colleagues, and the residents of Region 7. Our party has lost a valuable comrade, and our nation has lost a true servant. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Campaign Manager of the WIN Party, Odessa, herself a Bartican reacted on her Facebook page: “Damn I just heard sir Daniel fell down at a PPP rally and died. It is indeed sad. My heartfelt condolences to his wife, children and family. Politics aside sir Daniel was a friend and an educator for many years. We appreciate your service sir.”

Another Bartican, Juretha Fernandes who is the prime ministerial candidate for the APNU said the passing of Sir Daniel Williams leaves a profound void, not just in the political landscape of Bartica, but in the hearts of all who knew him, whether as a leader, an opponent, or a friend. “My own political journey was shaped in Bartica, and Sir Daniel was one of the figures who made that experience meaningful. Though he entered politics later in life, he gave it his all.

I always saw him as a worthy political opponent, one who engaged without venom, with quiet determination rather than aggression.”

Fernandes said even when “we disagreed, there was mutual respect. I never passed him without acknowledging him, and though I spoke candidly about our political differences, I always acknowledged his humility and his genuine love for Bartica. In a world where politics can often turn bitter, Sir Daniel stood out as one of the more reserved, even timid, figures, yet his impact was undeniable,” Fernandes said. “His absence will be deeply felt, but his legacy, of perseverance, kindness, and commitment, will endure. To his family and loved ones, I extend my deepest condolences. May you find strength in the memories of his integrity and the knowledge that he made a difference in the lives of so many. Rest well, Sir Daniel.”

In a statement on his Facebook page, Regional Chairman of Region Seven, Kenneth Williams said he was officially “informed by our medical team that Sir Daniel Williams, our Head Master of Three Miles Secondary School has passed. Whatever the political rivalry, this is a shocking development and our hearts go out to his immediate family.” Williams added that Daniel has always been, “in my estimation an amiable and pleasant individual. The RDC extends heartfelt sympathy to his entire family circle, political comrades, Education Department, senior staff and teachers of There Miles Secondary.”

For its part, the Alliance For Change (AFC) said Mr. Williams was a dedicated educator, a respected leader, and a man committed to the service of his community and country. “His contribution to the development of young minds and the advancement of education will not be forgotten. Regardless of political differences, Mr. Williams’ passing is a loss to us all. His life exemplified service, and his impact will continue to be felt by those he taught, mentored, and led.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the community of Bartica during this time of mourning.
