Time for an honest conversation on inclusion in West Indies cricket

Kaieteur News – It is important to recognize that the Stabroek News of Guyana has today joined the T&T Guardian in printing a powerful letter that highlights a growing concern many have long felt but too few have voiced publicly: the urgent need for a transparent, honest, and fruitful discussion on the inclusion of players of East Indian descent in our regional cricket team—a discussion long overdue and critically important.

Despite repeated efforts to seek clarity, Windies Cricket (CWI) continues to adamantly ignore written requests for explanation or dialogue on this sensitive but essential issue. Silence cannot substitute for accountability.

This conversation is not about division—it is about fairness, representation, and respect. It is about ensuring that our team reflects the ethnic composition of our region, and that every young cricketer, regardless of background, feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

The East Indian community across the Caribbean has a rich cricketing legacy and a deep love for the game. Yet, many feel marginalized in selection processes that remain shrouded in secrecy.

Now is the time to break that silence.

We urge public forums, media outlets, civil society, and cricketing authorities to engage openly and transparently on this issue. Let’s bring it to the forefront—not just in newspaper letters, but in boardrooms, sports panels, and community gatherings.

Cricket is more than a game—it’s part of our identity. And fairness in cricket is fairness in society.

Let’s start the conversation. Let’s demand transparency. Let’s make room for every voice in our West Indian story.
