Accused Allister Michelle at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court

Kaieteur News – A businessman was remanded on Wednesday for obtaining $2 million by false pretense. The accused, Allister Michelle appeared before senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Michelle pleaded not guilty to the offence which alleged that on March 6, 2025 at Ruimveldt Georgetown, he obtained $2 million from Yonnette Joseph by pretending he was in a position to obtain a house lot for Joseph knowing the same to be false.

Joseph told the court that Michelle was wanted since 2021 and that he has a history of committing such offences. She noted that because of such he should not be granted bail.

Joseph claims Michelle is aware on how the Guyana Police Force and the justice system work and as such, been hiding for quite some time.

Joseph noted that Michelle made no arrangements with her to organise a re-payment plan; however, she noted that Michelle’s wife gave her $500,000 and asked for her husband to not be arrested. Joseph stated that she would never wish to send someone to prison, but Michelle is constantly avoiding the police even going by different names.

The prosecution agreed with the objections made by Joseph.

Michelle stated that he has no issue repaying Joseph. He claimed that the amount of money Joseph is accusing him of collecting is incorrect. He said he paid her $500,000 and she had left her banking information for him to make payments since an agreement was made.

Additionally, Michelle told the court that he could start making payments from this month end as he has two government contracts and just need time. He said he can at least pay $100,000 per month.

Michelle was denied bail and the matter was adjourned for August 20, 2025.
