Kaieteur News – The body of 49-year-old Charles Osbourne, a boat captain and resident of Moraikobai Village, Region Five was on Saturday found in the Mahaicony River.
Osbourne, a father of seven, was feared dead on Friday following a two-boat collision on Friday in the Mahaicony River.
Reports are that his remains were found by members of a search team put together to locate him on Friday
Details surrounding the accident are sketchy but Kaieteur News understands that Charles’ boat collided with a boat that was transporting passengers to the village. Charles was reportedly heading in the opposite direction; towards Mahaicony.
Information reaching Kaieteur News is that Charles’ boat was wrecked after the crash and he was no-where to be seen. A search party was launched but up to press time there were still no signs of Charles in the river or even close to the river banks.
Moraikobai’s Toshao, Derrick John confirmed the tragic accident in a Facebook post noting that it happened while the village was preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
The village council has since made a decision to cancel the celebrations until further notice. According to a statement from the council, “This decision has been made in light of the recent tragic incident that has deeply affected our community.”
