Government: Don’t rock the boat
Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – I read with interest Stabroek News Editorial “Protests over Access to Information Law” (SN, 21st July 2025) and cannot help but think that all these SHENANIGANS by the Democratically Elected PPP/C Government of Guyana because it refuses to rock the boat where ExxonMobil is concerned.
The PPP/C Government is acting more and more AUTOCRATIC rather than being transparent and accountable in an open and honest manner. It is giving citizens the Royal run around instead of giving citizens the access to information.
This is not because the protests are politically motivated as stipulated by President Irfaan Ali. It is because of the power and control that ExxonMobil wields over Governments, including Guyana’s.
It would be no different with the PNCR led APNU in Government as they, everyone across the political divide, is being subservient to ExxonMobil and by extension, America.
ExxonMobil is looking out for its SHAREHOLDERS; the politicians (including the PPP/C) should be looking out for Guyanese Citizens interests, which is not the case.
All of these SHENANIGANS by the PPP/C Government of Guyana, because it does not want to renegotiate the deficient ExxonMobil/Guyana Oil Contract.
