Kaieteur News – President Irfaan Ali on Sunday, announced his government’s plans to set up a US$200 million fund for small and medium sized enterprises, if elected for a second term.
At his party’s Region Six rally held at Albion, Corentyne, Ali told supporters that they are voting because they want to embrace the plans of the government to co-invest with citizens, where money will be made available to them with very low interest rates.
“We are going to set up a fund. We are going to set up a fund of US$200 million to support our small and medium sized enterprises. We are going to set up a fund of US$200 million to ensure that you have access to capital, that you have access to financial services.”
The announcement was met with roaring cheers and loud applause as the party’s flags filled the air.
The president explained that the government is seeking to modernise the financial architecture of Guyana so that persons could be able to transact business from anywhere. He told supporters that they are also voting for a safer, more secure country and communities.
“…we got to invest in technology, but we also want you to understand that as people of this country, you must take responsibility also. It is important that we do our part to reduce the deaths on the road by accidents. We can put all the camera in place. We have to have an education programme that will help our drivers drive safely, because we want our people to live safe with a high-quality life,” the head-of-state added.
He said there will be investments in not just the stadiums, but also a state-of-the-art recreational facility in Albion, along with a high-performance center where the police can have the best opportunity and access to be the best they can.
The PPP kicked off the Berbice leg of its election campaign to Region Six on Sunday. Thousands of supporters gathered in Albion to listen to the speeches of the candidates and the leadership of the party.
In full PPP fashion, the event had no shortage of entertainment with performances from a number of local artistes including budding soca sensation Omaiah Hall.
Supporters listened to the grand plans the PPP has for Berbice if re-elected for a second term.
Patrons were reminded of all of the reasons why they should not give their vote to the opposition parties, especially newcomer We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), as government officials as well as crossover laid the claim that the PPP is the only party that can take Guyana forward and continue down the path it has been on for the last five years.
