Jul 21, 2025 Letters
Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – I write this letter with a heavy heart and deep sorrow over the brutal and senseless killing of Ms. Jenel Pollydore, a beloved teacher from the mining town of Linden, who was reportedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend. This despicable act has shaken our community to its core and once again brought to light the devastating impact of domestic and intimate partner violence in our society.
Ms. Pollydore was more than just a teacher she was a mother, a mentor, a role model, and a nurturer of young minds. Her loss is not only a tragedy for her family and loved ones but also for the students whose lives she touched and the wider Linden community that now mourns her untimely death.
It is absolutely unacceptable that in 2025, women continue to lose their lives at the hands of men who claim to have once loved them. How many more must die before we, as a nation, begin to take serious and sustained action to protect our women and girls?
We must demand swift justice for Jenel Pollydore. But more than that, we must demand change. The government, law enforcement, civil society, and every citizen must play an active role in confronting and eradicating domestic violence. We need more education, more resources for victims, stronger protective laws, and a judicial system that does not turn a blind eye to threats and patterns of abuse.
Let us not allow Jenel’s death to become just another headline or statistic. Let us raise our voices loudly and clearly: enough is enough. We must protect our women. We must teach our boys and men that love is not control, that rejection is not justification for violence, and that true strength lies in walking away—not in destroying lives. May Jenel Pollydore rest in peace, and may her death serve as a rallying cry for urgent and lasting change.
Sincerely,
Lorenzo Joseph
