Venezuelan teen remanded for cocaine possession
Kaieteur News – An 18-year-old construction worker from Helena #2 Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and Barrancas Del Orinoco, Venezuela, was on Friday remanded to prison for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Jaiver Vasquez was arrested on July 16 by a rank from Mahaica Police Station and charged on Friday with the offence of Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking (to wit 14 grams of Cocaine).
According to a release from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) the charge was laid under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
Vasquez appeared at the Mahaicony Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Allan Wilson, where the charge was read to him.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until August 29, 2025.
Vasquez was nabbed by Police ranks on motorcycle patrol duty at Helena #2, Mahaica, where he was seen standing on a bridge with a black one-strap bag hanging around his neck. A search on his person and bag was conducted by ranks and 11 grams of cocaine was found in his bag.
