Vote fuh who? Not me, boss man!
Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh we get brainwash so bad, we walking ’round thinking vote is gold and ballot box is salvation. Every five year, dem roll out big smile, pretty posters, and free jersey with a party logo, and we run like ants to sugar. Vote like is manna from heaven. But leh we ask, vote matter fuh who?
It sure don’t matter fuh de man at Bourda Market who cyah even afford greens. It don’t matter fuh de single mother who gotta choose between food and bus fares fuh dem pickney. It matter fuh de fat cats in high places. It matter fuh de big ones who done set table before election day and inviting all dem friends to come eat. You? You still waiting in line outside de gate.
Dem boys seh vote does help—help dem get richer while you get poorer. Vote does count—count towards dem pension, dem perks, dem bodyguard, dem overseas trips. You? You counting lil cents to buy one tin milk. Vote got power, yes. But like everything else in Guyana, the power gone straight to de top.
And if you think you’s different—if you think dis time your vote gon change tings—well, maybe, just maybe, you finally see light. Because fuh the first time in a long, long time, de rejected, de neglected, de looked-down-on got somebody who not born in de club, who not bred fuh bow and scrape to de same set of people. He got money. He nah need money. And that might just mek de difference.
But if not? If is de same wine in new bottle? Stay home. Rest yuh hand. Because if your vote does keep you poor, voiceless, and waiting fuh scraps, better you don’t vote at all. Unless—unless—you find somebody who gon mek your vote, your voice, and your life matter.
Until then, dem boys voting wid dem belly. You should too.
