Kaieteur News- A 52-year-old social worker reportedly called in the Police on Thursday afternoon after finding an illegal gun stashed in half bag of rice at her La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) home.
She reportedly called ranks from the La Parfaite Harmonie Police station and they showed up around 17: 25 hrs.
They found a .32 revolver wrapped in a plastic bag and concealed in the rice, police said.
Police learnt that the social worker’s aunt had brought home the rice around 19:30 hrs. on Wednesday.
“The woman said she took the bag with rice, placed it in her Kitchen, to be used to cook dog food”, police stated.
However, on Thursday when she attempted to take out a quantity of rice to cook for her dogs she found the weapon.
She reportedly wasted no time in calling police who has since taken possession of the firearm.
The aunt has since been contacted and up to press time was still being question by police about the gun.
Investigations continue.
