(AL-JAZEERA) Since dawn, on Wednesday, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed at least 81 people including 25 aid seekers, medical sources told Al Jazeera.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said 15 of the aid seekers died from a stampede and suffocation due to tear gas being fired at Palestinians seeking food at a GHF food distribution hub in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
“For the first time, deaths have been recorded due to suffocation and the intense stampede of citizens at aid distribution centers,” the ministry said.
It accused the Israeli army and the US of “deliberately” committing “massacres against the starving people in a systematic manner.”
The ministry issued the statement after the US- and Israel-backed GHF acknowledged this morning that 20 people had been killed at its distribution point in Khan Younis, accusing Hamas-affiliated elements of fomenting the unrest.

Since the GHF started operating in the enclave in late May, at least 875 people have been killed trying to get food, according to the United Nations, which said on Tuesday that 674 of these deaths occurred “in the vicinity of GHF sites”.
The Israeli military continues to attack Gaza from the north to the south of the besieged Palestinian enclave. At least 21 aid seekers were killed while searching for food.
Meanwhile, a child was killed and several other Palestinians injured as a result of Israeli shelling of the Bureij refugee camp, central Gaza. Three other people died in an air strike near the al-Shuhada School, north of Deir el-Balah, also in central Gaza and two others were killed and others injured in Israeli bombardment of Jabalia in the north of the Gaza Strip. Israeli bombing of displaced people’s tents in the al-Mawasi camp in Gaza’s south also resulted in the deaths of nine Palestinians.
Since the war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on the enclave have killed 58,573 people and wounded 139,607, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
In the latest 24-hour reporting period, 94 people have been killed and 252 injured.
Since March 18 when Israel broke the January ceasefire, at least 7,750 Palestinians have been killed and 27,566 have been wounded.
