Two found dead in submerged vehicle
(Kaieteur News) – Two men were found dead inside a pick-up truck that was pulled from a concrete drain along the Ogle-to-Eccles Bypass Road on Sunday morning, prompting police to launch an investigation into the incident.
The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Brian Sookram of Lot 3 Crown Dam, Industry, East Coast Demerara, who was driving motor pick-up GRR 5251, and 35-year-old Leon Sookdeo of Lot 998 Diamond New Scheme, East Bank Demerara, who was a passenger.
The vehicle which was found toppled in a concrete drain along the Ogle to Eccles bypass road where two men were found dead.
According to the Guyana Police Force’s traffic department, the vehicle was discovered overturned and completely submerged in a concrete drain along Henry Public Road. The drain, estimated to be about 15 feet wide and 10 feet deep, contained water and dense vegetation.

Police said the pick-up was removed from the drain by a tow truck in the presence of investigators, during which the bodies of both men were discovered motionless inside the vehicle.
The scene was processed by Assistant Superintendent M. Ramdas, Traffic Officer, Assistant Superintendent K. Seetaram, Detective Officer, and other ranks from Regional Police Division 4B.
A preliminary examination of the bodies revealed no visible marks of violence.
Both men were transported under police escort to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they were examined by Dr. James and pronounced dead on arrival.
Their bodies have since been taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Mortuary, where they await post-mortem examinations.
Investigators also processed the scene and the vehicle, but checks for CCTV footage and eyewitnesses reportedly proved unsuccessful. The pick-up has been lodged at the SAGE Pond Police Outpost, where it will undergo examination by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.
Police are continuing investigations to determine how the vehicle ended up in the drain and the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
