Kaieteur News – Former Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall, on Saturday announced that he is endorsing President Irfaan Ali of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) for a second term as President of Guyana.
In a statement via his Facebook page, the former A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) member said his endorsement comes as he prepares to celebrate his 45th birthday on July 20.
“Standing on the threshold of my 45th year, I reflect not only on my personal journey but on the remarkable transformation of our beloved Guyana. Our nation today bears little resemblance to the Guyana our ancestors knew, and our capacity to navigate the rapid changes ahead will determine whether we fulfill our destiny as a global success story,” he said.
The former mayor explained that earlier this year, he had the privilege of speaking with President Ali at length.
“What struck me most was his genuine passion for fostering unity among all Guyanese, his commitment to religious tolerance, and his ambitious vision for infrastructure development. His dynamic energy, deep love for our country, and pragmatic approach to governance are truly commendable qualities,” Marshall said.
Marshall who served two consecutive terms as mayor said that in assessing the path forward for the nation, he believes the country needs leadership that can harness the tremendous potential while navigating the complexities of the rapidly changing world.
“President Ali has consistently demonstrated the vision, and dedication required to guide Guyana through this crucial period in our history. I am convinced that given our nation’s bright future and the opportunities before us, he is uniquely qualified and prepared to lead our beautiful country for the next five years,” Marshall declared.
He mentioned that the President’s distinguished record of public service stands as a testament to his capabilities.
In applauding Ali’s achievements during his tenure and wishing him continued success in the 2025 elections and beyond, Marshall said, “Therefore, I endorse President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali for a second term as President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.”
Marshall served as Mayor of Bartica from 2016 to 2023.
