Kaieteur News – Once upon a time in Guyana, business people used to build big shiny stores and proudly boast, “Customer parking available.” But nowadays, dem boys seh if you believe that, you gon believe Santa Claus got a Guyanese passport.
Tek de big hardware store. Dem used to have enough parking fuh all dem customers, a minibus, and even a donkey cart. Now? Half of de lot tek up by de same staff who supposed to be helping you find a bolt or nut—but dem nut enough to tek all de space. Is like they building a car show more than a hardware.
And is not just hardware. Look all across de country—customer parking turning into “staff headquarters.” Dem businesses start off with good intentions, but soon as five staff buy car through some loan with balloon payment, dem forget bout de customer who paying dem salary in de first place.
Dem boys seh even schools get catch in de parking bacchanal. Time was when children coulda run free in the schoolyard, play lil rounders, or just dodge de occasional stray cricket ball. But now? Half of de schoolyard gone so dat dem teacher could park dem shiny rides. So now children playing “tag” in between tailpipes.
De worst is Regent Street. Go deh and try find parking if yuh bold. All dem spot tek up by vendor vehicle. Dem selling clothes, but dem car looking like mobile warehouse. One man got shirt stall and park he Prado right in front whole day—as if people buying shirt from the backseat.
Dem boys seh it getting outta hand. Next thing yuh gon see is customer bathroom turning into staff lunchroom.
Guyana need a Parking Revolution. Put up signs: “Customers Only, Staff Park By de Seawall.” Or better yet, dem boys seh staff should get bicycle. It good fuh de waistline, de climate, and de customers.
Because if customer can’t park, customer ain’t coming back. And if customer ain’t coming back, all yuh gon be parking up is unemployment.
Talk half. Leff half.

I am looking into possibilities of constructing a 6-8 level high rise parking, if I can
get a suitable spot.
This idea will not be enough but, will ease the parking situation somehow.
I don’t want to build a hotel- too many already in the country or planned.
Soon enough, there will be more hotels than people.
