Wanted man arrested over $13.1 million robbery from Giftland’s casino

Kaieteur News – Rakameem Nicholas, who was wanted for a multi-million-dollar armed robbery of the Fantasy Gaming Lounge located at the Giftland Mall last month, was arrested on Thursday.
The 21-year-old security guard of Lot 200 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, stole $13.1 million dollars, property of Sylvia Thomas.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Nicholas was seen standing at the entrance of KK Villa when the police arrived at approximately 19:00 hrs. He was arrested and a search was done on his person and a cell phone and $20,950 cash was found.
“The wanted man then took the ranks to a room at KK Villa, Room 9, where a search was conducted, and the security firearm (Glock 19) that he was working with at the time of the robbery was found in a black haversack,” police said.
Additionally, the firearm’s magazine contained 15 live matching round
s of ammunition. Also, passport and a copy of the security firearm license for the said firearm was found in Nicholas haversack.
It was reported by two supervisors, that 21-year-old Raywat Sankar and a 27-year-old female were on duty at the time of the robbery. The suspect was armed with a 9mm pistol and 17 rounds which belonged to the security service.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that on the date and time mentioned, the 21-year-old supervisor at Fantasy Game Lounge, Raywat Sankar, exited the cashier area to assist the 27-year-old female floor supervisor in cleaning the gaming area since no customer was there at the time,” police said.
They added that the suspect approached Sankar and the floor supervisor, took out the firearm, pointed it in their direction, and then discharged a round in the air, demanding that Sankar open the electronic door to the cashier area.
Sankar complied and the suspect then ordered him and the female supervisor into the cashier’s room and further instructed Sankar to open the vault and place all the cash into a garbage basket, after which he left the building with the cash.
“CCTV cameras at the Giftland mall captured the suspect walking out of the Giftland access road, then turning west on the Railway Embankment, and stopping a motorcar (PZZ 5690), which drove away in a western direction,” police noted.
