Kaieteur News – A 19-year-old man from Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was arrested on Thursday for allegedly being involved in an armed robbery.
Police said that Junior Linton while allegedly armed with a cutlass attacked 61-year-old Yasmin Mohamed, a labourer of Albouystown, Georgetown and relieved him of $30,000.
The incident occurred at approximately 05:00hrs Thursday at Hogg Street, Albouystown.
“Investigations so far revealed that on the date and time mentioned, the victim was riding his electric bike, heading north on Hogg Street, going to purchase breakfast at the La Penitence Market, when he was confronted by the suspect, who was armed with a cutlass,” police said in a statement.
Linton reportedly held onto the victim and pulled him off the cycle causing him to fall after which he pushed his hand into the victim’s pocket and took the money.
The suspect then allegedly lashed Mohamed about his body with the cutlass thereafter making good his escape.
Police said that the incident was captured on CCTV footage and the suspect was arrested at a guest house on Hogg Street, Albouystown. He was found with the cutlass but not the money.
