David Hinds says every Guyanese family deserves $1M from oil funds

Kaieteur News – Co-leader of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA), Dr. David Hinds told supporters of the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on Sunday that every Guyanese family deserves $1M from the oil revenues.

In his address at the coalition’s campaign launch at the Square of the Revolution, Hinds said the coalition will ensure that a percentage of the oil wealth goes directly to all citizens.

“Not a $100,000 freck. We will go to parliament and we will put it into law that a percentage of the oil money will go to every Guyanese. As you all know, the party to which I belong from as early as 2018 said that by 2025, each Guyanese family could be, and will be … entitled to GUY $1 million,” he said.

According to him, renowned economist Professor Clive Thomas has already conducted his research, and as part of the coalition, the WPA will sit down with its partners and decide on the correct number. He however assured that every Guyanese family will receive a cash transfer.

“Not cash grant, cash transfers, and you will get it by law. Sisters and brothers, for too long, our people have had to suffer. We live in a country in which almost 50 per cent of our people are living below the poverty line. According to the big shot people outside, they say 50 per cent of our people are earning less than $5.50 [per day] American money, that’s $1100 Guyanese money. We are going to change that,” he stressed.

Dr. Hinds assured that the coalition will wipe poverty off the face of the earth, urging the electorate to not waste their votes.

“…do not split your vote. Do not split. Our first task is to remove the PPP. We have to move them out of the way. The PPP is bad for Guyana. The PPP is blackout. The PPP is extrajudicial killing. The PPP is kidnapping. The PPP is corruption. The PPP is racism,” he said.

Dr. Hinds then accused the current administration of taking advantage of all the ethnic groups in the country, including the one that supports them the most, vowing to put an end to the wrongdoing.

“This country Guyana belongs to all of us. Africans, Indians, Portuguese, indigenous people, Chinese, mixed people. Guyana belongs to us and we all must benefit from what Guyana has to offer,” he declared.
