Goals Galore! St John’s College thrashes La’Venture Secondary 11-0.
Kaieteur Sports – Action continued yesterday in the sixth annual ExxonMobil Boys’ and Girls’ Under-14 Football Championship at the Ministry of Education (MoE) ground, with 26 matches wrapping up the second round of play.
Following an exciting opening round, teams returned to the breezy and rain-slicked MoE pitches to battle in what is considered the most-watched U14 tournament on the school sports calendar.
The girls’ division opened the day in thrilling fashion. Bartica Secondary dominated Vryman’s Erven Secondary with an 8-0 rout, led by Genesha Spencer’s precise finishing. Spencer netted a hat-trick to power her team, supported by a brace from Nerismar Williams and goals from Virlerkys Simon in the 6th and 19th minutes. Kelys Williams also added a 4th-minute strike to complete the carnage.
Waramuri Secondary followed suit with a commanding 9-0 win over Hope Secondary. Shanesha Thomas was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick in the 16th, 24th, and 30th minutes. Darwina Boyal added a brace, while Nikeisha Williams struck in the 8th and 22nd minutes. Zabita Harris and Breanna Henry also chipped in with goals in the 20th and 26th minutes, respectively.
Other results included; Chase’s Academic Foundation edged Yarrowkabra Secondary 1-0, Good Hope Secondary narrowly defeated New Campbellville Secondary 1-0, Marian Academy battled to a 1-0 win over a tougher opponent, thanks to Ashley Wharton’s 10th-minute goal. Dolphin Secondary overcame Christ Church 1-0 before St Joseph High earned their second consecutive win, defeating Bush Lot Secondary 1-0, with Dena Pablo scoring the lone goal.

The boys’ competition continues to impress, with several emerging talents on display in Round Two. Georgetown teams faced tough outcomes, notably Charity Secondary, who cruised past North Ruimveldt Secondary 4-0. Johnny Smith, building on his strong showing last week, netted twice in the 3rd and 5th minutes. Teammates Shaqcoby Wills and Micah James added one goal each.
Annandale Secondary was also dominant, beating Leonora Secondary 6-1. The goals came from Shaquan Calendar and Malachi Jarvis with two each, and solo efforts by Jayden Havercome and Zephan Henry.
One of the round’s most thrilling clashes saw Bygeval Secondary edge Abram Zuil Secondary 4-3 in a nail-biter. Bygeval’s goals came from Richardo Wills, Rafael Aguilar, and Jahieem Henry, with an early own goal helping to secure the narrow victory.
St John’s College looked unstoppable; routing La’Venture Secondary 11-0. Robinho Abrams netted a hat-trick, Dexter John scored twice, while Shangi Welch and Jasiah Nedd added their names to the scoresheet.
Meanwhile in other notable results, Chase’s Academic Foundation thrashed East Ruimveldt 6-0, thanks to goals from Trevon Glasgow, Jashan Haynes, Nyron Barrow, Fabio Kowlessar, and Jadan Christian. Cotton Field Secondary mirrored that result with a 6-0 win over Christ Church, featuring a standout performance from Daren Thomas. Waramuri Secondary edged Lodge Secondary 1-0. Good Hope Secondary outclassed Brickdam Secondary 4-2. West Demerara Secondary beat Westminster Secondary 3-1. Marian Academy boys bounced back with a resounding 6-0 win over Hope Secondary. Belladrum Secondary secured back-to-back wins, downing New Central High 3-0. New Amsterdam Secondary narrowly defeated South Ruimveldt 3-2.
The tournament is sponsored by ExxonMobil, with support from MVP Sports, SkyTec, Stena Drilling, I-Cee Soft Drink, and Demerara Mutual. It is sanctioned by the Ministry of Education and endorsed by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Round Three action resumes today at the same venue, promising more excitement in both the Boys’ and Girls’ divisions.
