Kaieteur Sports – Diamond Secondary School emerged victorious in the Inter-Secondary Schools Player’s Challenge Trophy Tapeball Cricket Championship, defeating Beterverwagting (BV) Secondary School in a competitive final to lift the 2025 title.
After winning the toss under windy skies, Diamond Secondary opted to bat first. Arshad Drepaul anchored the innings with a composed knock of 28 runs, laying a solid platform for his side. Diamond eventually posted 61-4 from their allotted four overs. BV’s Randy Roopnarine was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 2-19, effectively keeping the scoring in check.
In reply, BV Secondary looked to chase down the target but were stifled by disciplined bowling, particularly from Adrian Persaud, who picked up 2-23. Sachin Muniram top-scored for BV with a fighting 21, but their innings closed at 53-3, falling short by eight runs. For his all-round performance, Arshad Drepaul was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Meanwhile, cricket action continues this Saturday, July 5th, at the same venue, where veteran organiser James “Uprising” Lewis will host the Annual Secondary Schools’ Boys End-of-Term 8-a-side 30-Ball Knockout Tournament.
School teams from across the country, including; Berbice, Essequibo, Linden, West Demerara, East Bank, and Corentyne will compete for the prestigious Hon. Minister’s Trophy, medals, and other major prizes.
The much-anticipated event is coordinated by James “Uprising” Lewis and promises to be another thrilling showcase of emerging cricketing talent.
