Second memorial match set for Fazil Sattaur on Saturday
Kaieteur Sports – The second memorial match is set for Saturday, July 5 for former Guyana first-class cricketer and Canadian International player Fazil Sattaur.
The 30-over hard-ball game is scheduled to be played at the Laurel Creek Conservation ground in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Sattaur died September 2023 at age 58 due to illness.
In 2024 a list of his former Guyana teammates played in a 30-over match at the above-mentioned venue including Clayton Lambert, Sudesh Dhaniram, Kenneth Wong, Derrick Kallicharran, Arjune Nandu, Keith Semple, Azib Alli Hanif, Hemnarine Chattergoon, Matthew Nandu and Dillon Heyliger.
According to his younger brother, Abdool Samad, preparations for the game are going smoothly.
Samad, who also represented Canada at the highest level, stated that the same set of players will be gracing the occasion again except Lambert and Dhaniram.
He stated that the family is still saddened with his brother’s passing but excited to run off this cricket match for the second year in succession.
The action is slated to commence at 1:00pm.
Sattaur was known as the “Terminator” due to his destructive batting approach. At last year’s event, the two teams were named: Terminator 1&2.
The right-handed batsman Sattaur played club cricket for Albion Cricket Club and city-team Everest before his immigration to Canada.
Meanwhile, Kallicharran, an ex-Guyana and West Indies B team player and the brother of former Guyana and West Indies batsman Alvin Kallicharran, informed that this match will also be played in memory of Suresh Ganouri. Ganouri featured for Guyana at the first-class level too. He died at age 63 in 2018 also due to illness.
Derrick Kallicharran participated in the organizational aspect of things for Sattaur’s first memorial game.
Like Samad, Derrick Kallicharran, has expressed appreciation to all the players for coming out and remember Sattaur.
Sattaur left 6 brothers, 3 sisters, 4 daughters, 1 son and 3 grandchildren to mourn.
