Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – I write to join the chorus of condemnation of ‘Critic’ for his unjustified foul, lewd, disrespectful language attacking Minister Priya Manickchand. The attack is very crude, wrong, and disturbing. No one must bully, attack, shame, and intimidate people with who we are in disagreement. There is no excuse for offensive, demeaning comments.
While Critic, me, and others may have disagreement with the Minister in her views on how the legal case against Skello was handled by the court, it in no way diminishes respect for Manickchand or justifies a vicious, obscene personality attack against the Education Minister or on anyone, least of all a female. The attitude and attack on Manickchand and women in general are abhorrent, reprehensible, puerile and abhorrent and must be rejected.
Offensive, demeaning language against Manickchand and other women is a form of verbal abuse. Society must
forthrightly and unequivocally condemn the vile, sinister, and nasty attacks being leveled against the Minister of Education and promote respectful behavior. Critic is urged to rethink his words, renounce reprehensible views about women, and apologize to the Minister.
Separately, I will like to publicly acknowledge that Manickchand was among the earliest responders critical of Skello for his attack on the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi. The Minister’s support for Hindus is appreciated by the community.
Yours truly,
Dr. Vishnu Bisram
