Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – When a head of state must personally step in to do the work of institutions, it is not leadership — it is proof of failure. A country where the president has to intervene in decisions that should be made by competent officials and institutions like GRA, Ministry of Public Works, GPF, GTU among others, is a country where the systems are failing.
Guyana today is not “Little Dubai.” It is “Little Lies” — a lite that is propped up by the government and PPP propaganda machinery. We see today a government that continues to struggle providing the most basic services like safe and efficient traffic, impartial police investigations, properly constructed roads, vehicles and other resources for police officers and real, safe and efficient public transportation.
It seems somehow, we take these things for granted, however they impact every aspect of our lives from our mental health to running simple errands. Image, most of the roadways used in our country do not have bicycle lanes and pedestrian sidewalks. How is this possible and why? We have a serious parking problem because multi complexes and other types of businesses are permitted to build without providing adequate parking for their customers. Many one-way streets are not marked as such, teachers, police officers, university professors and nurses, some of the most critical areas for the development and safety of our people and country, remain underpaid.
Is this little Dubai? Perhaps this is a moniker more reflective of the safe haven that Dubai provides for money laundering and other financial crimes. Let us get real Guyana! Our politicians know or ought to know much better than the average Guyanese about the importance of standards, efficiency, the value and critical importance of a well paid and skilled public service, the importance of regional autonomy and development – Region 4 is over saturated, over populated, overwhelmed with traffic on its major road arteries and garbage. We have a beautiful stretch of seawall that could be transformed into a tranquil, green space that blends scenic views, cultural spaces, recreation, and historical richness – biking trail, walking trails and well-maintained mini parks and gardens.
But instead, all along the seawall are rum shops I call it, everyone selling the same thing, food, alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. We are already short and diverse recreational activities and spaces in our communities – and please do not say a football pitch or cricket ground, we are more creative than that – nowhere to go for an afternoon walk without walking on roads with no sidewalk. We have the potential to really be Little Dubai, but we are moving in the opposite direction.
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizen Tired of The Games and Mediocrity

Little Dubai???
Guyana MAY be rich in many resources. BUT there’s NO cooperation, accurate or positive criticism is communication. There will NEVER be any transparency.
It’s disgraceful to see how just the use of social media is being used. Cussing out each other on a second basis. Sudden disappearances, SUCICIDE, ect. When a MESSED up government is replaced, it takes years to rebuild the damages caused. Mr. President Ali may not be an angel, however, look at the transformation. I was in Guyana 2019. When I see vlogs and blogs, or whatever…I’m completely in awww from the amazing transformation. Guyana lacks honesty and honest people. In this current century, WHY is Guyana still using receipt books as a way to conduct businesses. I’m a bookkeeper. It’s so EASY to get ALL your business organized in one computer. It’s so simple, it can be done on your phone if you have the software. ACCPAC, SAGE, QUICKBOOKS, this is the ONLY software that your business requires. It also does your payroll accurately.
I would LOVE to bring my experience to Guyana and teach them basic skills. Accounting, payroll, bookkeeping, taxes, ext.
