Kaieteur News – Police are investigating a fatal incident which occurred on Sunday afternoon at Long Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Dead is Winston Hibbert, a 78-year-old motorcyclist.
In a press release police said the incident involved a motorcycle (# CG 8545), black and red in colour, owned by Alwin Hibbert and driven at the time by Winston Hibbert (now-deceased), both from Lot 181 Long Creek Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Enquiries disclosed that the motorcycle was proceeding north along the western driving lane of the highway at a fast rate when the motorcyclist lost control and collided with a concrete kerb on the western side of the road. As a result of the impact, Hibbert fell off the motorcycle and sustsined injuries to his head and body.
According to information received from persons in the area, the motorcyclist was at a funeral in the community, consuming alcohol and was heading home at the time of the incident. He was not wearing a safety helmet.
He was picked up in a semi-conscious condition, placed into a passing motor vehicle and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex. There he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
The body was then escorted by the Police to the Linden Hospital Complex Mortuary for cold storage, awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination.
