Kaieteur News – A 23-year-old labourer, on Friday, was released on $100,000 bail for an alleged robbery.
The accused, Jamal Hicks of Lot 153 James and Cooper Streets, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Hicks pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on June 24, 2025 at Stabroek Market, while in the company of another, stole one gold chain valued $120,000, property of Chance Forde.
The defence was led by attorney Stacy Goodings who requested bail for her client. She told the court that her client was told by police that on the day in question, they saw somebody (name not mentioned) jumped on to her client’s motorcycle and rode away after the chain was stolen.
Goodings said that upon her instructions, Hicks offered to drop the person and when he was approached by police, he provided them with all the necessary information he had about the individual. She noted that her client denied the allegation since he has no knowledge of a gold chain.
The prosecution told the court that the defendant was the rider of the motorcycle when the pillion rider came off the bike and stole the chain. The court heard that the offence was also caught on camera.
Magistrate Singh granted Hicks bail on condition that he reports to the Brickdam Police Station the last Friday of each month.
The matter was adjourned for July 25, 2025.
