Kaieteur News – A 53-year-old man, on Friday, was charged with rape of a child under the age of 16 and remanded to prison when he appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, Andre Stuger, a barrack labourer (cleaner) of Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was initially arrested for the abduction of a 13-year-old girl who was reported missing by her relatives on June 18, 2025.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which was read to him by Magistrate Abigail Gibbs and was remanded to prison until August 4, 2025.
Family members said that on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, a taxi driver saw the teen walking alone at a location and picked her up. He quickly alerted family members via telephone that he had found her.
The taxi driver was advised to take the child to the nearest police station since she was found a good distance from her home.
“I tell him where to take her,” the child’s mother said while recounting that the taxi driver also allowed the 13-year-old girl to speak to her.
While at the police station, the teen told police, she was held against her will at a house on the East Coast of Demerara. Her mother said she told her, “He lock me up there for couple days.”
The victim took police to a location, where Stuger was found. He was arrested immediately.
