Omai nears completion of Wenot gold pit expansion programme
…reports strong drill results

Kaieteur News – Canadian mining firm, Omai Gold Mines Corp., announced promising results this week from its 2025 drilling campaign at the Wenot gold deposit. In that announcement, the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Elaine Ellingham, disclosed that Omai is nearing completion of the Wenot gold pit expansion programme.
Ellingham said, “As we are nearing completion of the Wenot resource expansion drill program, the campaign is looking to finish on a strong note heading into the updated MRE (Mineral Resource Estimate) planned for next quarter. Broad zones of higher-grade gold mineralisation continue to be intersected below and along the flanks of both the 2024 MRE and 2024 PEA (Preliminary Economic Assessment) pit shell, boding well for the pending update. Our exciting hole, 25ODD-122, targeting both the Gilt Creek deposit and the Wenot depth potential, is progressing well, and recently passed the 1,000m downhole mark and continues.”
Since its return to “mining-friendly” Guyana, Omai has been focused on revitalising the historic Omai gold project, which encompasses two gold deposits: the shear-hosted Wenot Deposit and the adjacent intrusive-hosted Gilt Creek Deposit, located in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), Guyana.
Omai’s latest assays include 2.67 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold over 21.4 metres, 2.31 g/t over 24.6 metres, and 5.47 g/t over 9.7 metres. The results come from five drill holes totalling 3,189 metres, contributing to a total of 17,109 metres drilled across 28 holes so far this year. This surpasses the company’s initial 15,000-metre target for the program.
Moreover, the company said that drilling continues with two rigs on Wenot and a third rig on the long Gilt Creek-Wenot drill hole, designed to test the upside potential of both deposits, as well as exploring between the two adjacent related orogenic gold deposits. Following the cut-off date for the resource study, drilling will continue on Wenot, but more focused on Wenot extensions as well as on earlier-stage targets across the Omai gold property that holds potential for near-surface satellite pits.
This publication recently reported that Omai has discovered a new gold zone. Since 2021, the company has established the Omai Gold Project as one of the fastest-growing and well-endowed gold camps in the prolific Guiana Shield greenstone belt. In February 2024, Omai announced an updated MRE of 2.0 million ounces of gold indicated and 2.3 million ounces inferred, comprising both the Wenot open pit deposit and the adjacent Gilt Creek underground deposit. This was followed by an initial baseline PEA in April 2024, which contemplated an open pit-only development scenario and included only 45 per cent of the Omai Gold Project MRE. The PEA for the Wenot deposit outlines an open-pit operation producing 1.84 million ounces over a 13-year mine life. Annual production is projected to average 142,000 ounces, peaking at 184,000 ounces in the best year.
