Schools to reopen on September 8 – Education Ministry
Kaieteur News – The Ministry of Education announced on Friday that the 2025/2026 school year will begin on September 8, 2025.
“This means that schools will open on September 8, 2025 for the Christmas term. We wish all of our learners and teachers all the very best for the two remaining weeks of this term and for their August holidays,” the ministry posted on its Facebook page.
Initially, school was expected to be reopened on September 1, but with general and regional elections set for that date, Minister Manickchand promised earlier this week that a new date would be set.
Noting that schools are usually used as polling stations, the minister relayed on Tuesday that general and regional elections are important as they reinforce and refresh democracy.
“We are happy to give up the schools for that important purpose of allowing people to exercise their will, and there will be a change that will be announced later. We usually accommodate it,” the minister had stated.
