Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – Amanza Walton Desir’s departure from the PNC (APNU) is a telling blow to the party. She is very popular in the PNC base and among floating voters who are disgruntled with PPP, PNC (APNU), and AFC. Unlike others who departed from the PNC, Amanza has a base and will take them with her. Those who do not recognize Amanza’s popularity do not understand the state of politics in the country. Their political acumen and analysis of contemporary politics is questionable.
Amanza has been known to raise issues of social, political and economic importance as well as diplomacy and international relations, and confronted opponents on the floor as well as outside of parliament the House. She has a lovely voice that attracts a listening audience even if the content at times may not have been very good.
Amanza Walton-Desir is well liked, well-regarded and is an asset to any political party. Voters I polled over the last few years consistently described her as leadership material. She would have united the APNU+AFC base had she been chosen as a consensus Presidential or even Prime Ministerial candidate. She is also well regarded by diplomats.
Latest polling put President Irfaan in the lead. Azruddin Mohamed is giving both PPP and PNC a run for their money. How Amanza fares and what she brings to her new political associates will have to be tested.
Yours truly,
Vishnu Bisram
