Rohaman’s car lands in a trench at Camp Street and Carifesta Avenue after crashing into a light pole
Kaieteur News – Two men were killed in separate accidents on Saturday, one of them a driver who lost control of his car at Camp Street and Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown and the other who was crossing the road at Triumph, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The victims have been identified as Antonio Ignatius, a 51-year-old construction worker of Lot 77 Triumph Sideline Dam, East Coast Demerara and 31-year-old Christopher Rohaman of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara. Rohaman was killed during the wee hours of Saturday (00:20Hrs.) after he lost control of his car and crashed into a lamp pole in the vicinity of the Everest Cricket Club Ground. “The vehicle ended up in a nearby trench several feet away. The driver was pinned inside the vehicle and sustained injuries to his body”, police stated. An ambulance responded to the accident and Rohaman was pulled from the wreck in an unconscious condition. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Later that evening, Ignatius was killed while crossing Agriculture Road at Triumph, East Coast Demerara. Police said he was struck by a car around 19:15hrs. “Enquiries disclosed that motor car #PAH 5305 was proceeding north along the western side of Agriculture Road at a fast rate”, police said before adding “The driver alleged that the pedestrian suddenly walked across the road from east to west, into the path of his motorcar and a collision occurred”.
Ignatius was flung into the air before landing on the road surface. He was pronounced dead at the scene by an emergency response team attached to the Melanie Fire Station.
