Deputy Mayor’s Cup set to kick off this Saturday

Kaieteur Sports – The much-anticipated Seven-a-Side Inter Ward/Village Knockout Football Tournament, popularly known as the Deputy Mayor’s Cup, has seen a slight but important schedule change.

Originally slated to kick off Friday (June 6), organisers have officially moved the tournament’s start to Saturday, June 7.

Fixtures remains the same with the only change being the new opening date billed for Saturday. Meanwhile, the 32-team tournament is set to pit some of the best football talent, with teams emerging from as far as Mahaica, Timehri and Den Amstel.

The action-packed tournament will feature eight thrilling matches on Saturday, setting the tone for a weekend of intense competition. The excitement continues on Sunday, June 8, with another eight clashes that will determine the final lineup for the Round of 16.

Tournament coordinator, Lennox Arthur after several lengthy discussions and a final decision on the kickoff date, wish to apologise for any inconvenience cause by this unforeseen shift of dates. He also wishes to inform the public that: “Football will go on.” Come out in full support as local talent lights up the Police Sports Club ground from June 7 to June 18 in this high-energy community showdown.
