15 contractors compete to build Industry Polyclinic
Kaieteur News- Fifteen contractors have submitted bids to construct a polyclinic at Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The project, which went out to tender through the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), is estimated to cost $714,960,814.
At the latest reading of bids at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office, it was revealed that the following firms applied for the contract: D&S Construction -$671,744,000; Singh & Son Construction – $778,595,000; Sheriff Construction Inc. – $713,773,900; Sattur Mohamed & Son Construction – $708,624,090; China Harbor Engineering Company Guyana Inc. – $824,729,820; Qingjian Group Company Guyana Inc. – $976,073,933; MSR International Enterprise – $571,732,526; D David International – $577,315,026; BM Property Investment Inc. – $726,324,800; Urban Edge Builders Inc. – $703,173,900; NK Engineering Services – $665,810,500; KNS General Contractors Inc. $648,029,000; Shangdong Hi-Speed Group Limited – $879,444,913; Navin’s Construction – $714,798,100; and Blue Print Builders Inc. – $708,473,900.
This publication understands that the community of Industry currently has a health centre, which falls under the responsibility of the GPHC, that provides a variety of healthcare services to residents of Industry, Cummings Lodge and nearby communities.
It was reported that during the sod-turning ceremony for a polyclinic at Campbellville back in March, Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, had noted the government has been managing close to 380 different facilities across the country and pointed to the importance of upgrading these health facilities, whether it be health post or health centres.
“In every one of these facilities, whether it is at Agricola, East La Penitence, David Rose, Alberttown, Lodge, No. 1 Dispensary, North East La Penitence, Sophia, Dorothy Bailey, Campbellville, Industry, Kitty, Festival City, every single one of them, over the last three years, we would have done something to improve the conditions of these facilities,” the minister said, noting that it forms part of the vision of providing a world-class healthcare system for all Guyanese.
At that event, President Irfaan Ali highlighted the significance of upgrading the Campbellville Health Centre to a polyclinic, stating that polyclinics, and not clinics/health centres, are facilities which would provide diagnostic and specialty care to residents.
Notably, the head of state said that the government is gradually upgrading health clinics into polyclinics to ensure that communities which already have health clinics are improved and patients can access more specialised services, improved diagnostic capability and a greater capacity to care for people.
The Campbellville Health Centre is being upgraded to a polyclinic for $831 million.
The government has allocated $120 billion to the health sector this year.
