Kaieteur News- A Cuban man early Friday reportedly slashed his step-daughter to death and left his common-law-spouse clinging to life at their Pike Street, Kitty apartment.
He later surrendered to police at the Kitty Police Station with the murder weapon (a chopper) in his hand.
Police identified the victims as 21-year-old Davely Morales, and her 38-year-old mother, Milaysi Rodrigues, both Cuban nationals.
Morales collapsed at the scene and was pronounced dead while her mother was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in a critical condition.
The prime suspect, according to police, is 40-year-old Wispriey Alfonso.
Investigations so far revealed that the suspect, Rodrigues, his step-daughter and her 9-year-old sister moved to Guyana a month ago. They rented an apartment at Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
On Friday, things took a tragic turn when another tenant living in the same apartment building heard a woman screaming next door.
He ran over and reportedly saw the suspect over Rodrigues slashing her with a chopper. Morales was lying next to her mother with multiple chop wounds about her body in a pool of blood.
The tenant’s arrival caused a distraction and Morales ran out of the apartment but collapsed in a walkway. The suspect also ran out.
An ambulance was called and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) from Central Fire Station responded. A GPHC doctor onboard pronounced Morales dead at the scene.
Morales’ body reportedly bore chop wounds to the hands, the back of her head, and jaw.
Meanwhile, according to police, “the suspect walked into the Kitty Police Station with the chopper in hand”.
He remains in custody as investigations continue.
