…Newton, Persaud outshine competitors

Kaieteur Sports- Colombian rider Mateo Garcia, representing Trinidadian outfit Team Raiders, delivered a scintillating performance at this weekend’s 2025 National Independence Three-Stage Cycling Road Race, conquering the local field to win all three stages of the prestigious event on Sunday.
Following a commanding performance on the previous day, Garcia returned with clear intent to complete the sweep, and did just that. He clinched the final leg of the 42nd edition of the race in torrential rain, crossing the finish line in a time of two hours, 16 minutes, and 53 seconds (2:16:53). His teammate, Jadian Neaves, followed closely behind, securing second place in 2:17:17, while Guyanese rider Paul DeNobrega of Continental C settled for third.
In the Junior category, KFC Evolution’s Alex Newton was dominant, capturing first place with an impressive time of 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 5 seconds (2:25:05). Continental C’s Alex Leung finished second, while Triston Jaichand rounded out the podium in third.
Veterans Robin Persaud and Mark Spencer excelled in the Masters divisions. Persaud claimed the Masters 35–50 title, completing all three stages in a combined time of 6 hours, 29 minutes, and 29 seconds. Adam Alexander and Segun Hubbard took second and third places, respectively. In the Masters Over-50 division, Spencer clocked times of 1:42:34 (Stage 1), 2:34:29 (Stage 2), and 2:26:25 (Stage 3) to secure the overall win.

The event concluded with the Category Four competition, where KFC Evolution’s Roy Mangal emerged victorious, claiming wins in both the second and third stages. Kwame Fortune finished second overall, while Carlos Mendonca secured third.
