Kaieteur News- Thirty-one-year-old Sherman Ferguson, who is a member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), was remanded to prison on Wednesday after he was found with 70 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a car he was driving on April 10, 2025, along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
Ferguson appeared at the Friendship Magistrates’ Court for the offence of Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned to May 22, 2025.
It was reported that the car, which was driven by the officer, was searched and three large transparent plastic bags that contained a large quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found.
Ferguson was cautioned and subsequently arrested. The narcotics were weighed in his presence and amounted to 34.6kg, the equivalent of just over 70 pounds.
