Apr 29, 2025 Dem Boys Seh, Features / Columnists
Kaieteur News- Language is a funny thing, especially when it pass through de media spin cycle.
Dem boys seh de AFC and de PNCR trying fuh form a coalition—or maybe is a collision, dependin’ on who yuh ask and how much popcorn yuh eatin’ while watchin’ de show. Talks hit a snag and de AFC seh dem gon start campaignin’ alone in the meantime. And dem still hoping fuh an agreement before Nomination Day. PNCR seh dem still open to talk. Plain an’ simple.
But yuh think de media gon lef it deh so? Nah man! One media house seh “Talks collapse!” like if was a four-storey condemned building wid termite-infested wood and no approval from Town Council.
Dem boys seh is de same like when yuh tell somebody you and yuh girlfriend “taking a break”, and de next day yuh hearing y’all done split, yuh move out, and she dating she cousin friend uncle neighbour already. Nobody waitin’ fuh clarity. Drama does sell faster than plantain chip in traffic.
De difference between no agreement reach yet and talks collapse is like de difference between a flat tyre and a car write-off. But drama does sweet, so some media man rather write “disaster” than “pause.” Collapse sound more juicy, more spicy, and good fuh clicks.
Dem boys seh when a man seh, “Me nah decide yet,” dat don’t mean he quit. It just mean he still thinkin’. But de media gon done decide fuh he—print headline big big: “He resign!”
So instead of givin’ people de actual facts, some media houses prefer fuh throw in some pepper, cook up de story, and serve it hot like it just come out de bottom house cook shop.
Dem boys seh de only ting really collapse is media standards. De talks still deh pun de table, but apparently de truth done fall off de chair.
Dem boys seh next time yuh read a headline, remember—spin cycle in effect. And when de facts finally reach, dem done already wrap up de fish in de old paper.
Talk half. Leff half!
