Linden families bolstered with legal support
…as RSS takes charge of probe into police killings
Kaieteur News- Families of the two men who were shot and killed by police last week have been bolstered with legal support from attorney-at-law Dr Dexter Todd and have begun submitting statements to investigators of the Regional Security System (RSS).

On Sunday, Todd held talks with Linden Mayor, Sharma Solomon, before he met with the relatives of the men who were killed: Ronaldo Peters and Keon Fogenay. In a statement, Solomon said Dr. Todd met with some family members and witnesses of the shooting of both men.
“Today, at the request of family members, they, along with several witnesses of the Late Mr. Ronaldo Peters and Mr. Keon Fogenay, met with Dr. Dexter Todd, where they received legal support and guidance concerning the shooting events by members of Guyana Police Force on April 7th and 8th, 2025.” Solomon said Todd, who was also legally involved in the ‘Henry boys’ and the Quindon Bacchus cases, assured the families of his commitment to supporting them throughout the process. “While on site, several witnesses felt comfortable to come forward and were invited by the RSS to give their statements, with Dr. Todd present to offer support. The family is currently making arrangements for the wake, including burial preparations. The community remains committed to ensuring that justice is served for the families of Mr. Peters and Mr. Fogenay,” Solomon said.

Members of the RSS also met with the families on Sunday. The Police Force, in a statement to the media on Saturday, said that “ranks of Guyana Police Force Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) and the RSS team visited the crime scenes. The RSS team comprises three officers from Barbados and Saint Lucia. Solomon disclosed on Saturday that post-mortem examinations were done on the remains of both men, and it was concluded that they were both shot by live rounds. A round was recovered from Fogenay, and Solomon is urging preservation of the evidence so that it can be of use in the investigations.

Last week, the mining town descended into chaos after Peters was shot dead. The residents dubbed the shooting death a murder even as the police officer responsible for Peters’ death claims that his gun accidentally went off. The police’s claim was disputed by surveillance footage, which showed him running behind Peters with a gun. Shortly after, the police officer was seen fetching the injured man by his clothes. As the video footage circulated, residents of the mining town, especially from Peters’ community, were angered. The situation quickly sparked protests, which descended into chaos, resulting in the death of Fogenay.
