Kaieteur News– Police seized more than 211 kilograms of cocaine on Tuesday during an intelligence led operation in the Imbotero area of the Barima River, North West District.
The police said that the raid was, “led by a senior gazetted rank along with other members of the GPF. The raid was conducted at the residence and fuel storage bond of Anthony Hosea Beria, also known as Anthony Hosea Yispen. The exercise resulted in 11 cellular phones and three hand held radios being seized. No narcotics were discovered at the location and it is alleged that the suspect fled the location with a firearm before the raid.
Investigations carried out subsequently led to the arrest of four individuals, and each directed police to separate locations along Imbotero Creek, where several bags containing the suspected narcotics were recovered. Police said that a fisherman led ranks to one salt bag containing 20 parcels of a creamish, rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine, weighing 23.5 kilograms. A third man led the ranks to two salt bags containing 40 parcels, weighing 47 kilograms. Ranks were also directed to three salt bags containing 60 parcels, weighing 70.6 kilograms and another three salt bags with 60 parcels, also weighing 70.6 kilograms.
The men who led ranks to the drugs were each cautioned and placed into custody. The total weight of the suspected cocaine totaled approximately 456.7 pounds, which has as estimated street value of GYD 317.55 million. Further efforts of the law enforcement officers led to the arrest of the primary suspect, Yispen, who is currently in police custody aiding with investigations.
