My joy, when she is here with me,
Sees beauty in the golden light,
Where rivers weave through forest free,
And birds take their majestic flight.
She walks where giant trees embrace,
Through emerald canopies so wide,
And in the jungle’s hushed place,
She treads the earth with humble pride.
Her laughter dances with the breeze,
She loves the sky’s untamed delight,
She’s glad the rains caress the trees,
And fireflies pierce the velvet night.
The mighty Kaieteur’s endless fall,
The crimson sun on waves so bright,
She tells me they are loveliest all—
And whispers, “See them in my light.”
Not yesterday, I learned to know
The splendor of this land so free,
Where breezes kiss the palms below,
And rivers rush to meet the sea.
For when she speaks of land so fair,
With forests deep and waters wide,
I see Guyana’s beauty there,
And feel her wonder by my side.

Hard Truths by GHK Lall (Kaieteur News) – I feel as though I am shortchanging my fellow American, U.S. Ambassador, Nicole D. Theriot. I take my hat off to her, regret there’s only one to offer.
