Kaieteur News- Police on Friday discovered 10.55 lbs (4.79 kilograms) of marijuana at the Laparkan Shipping Company’s wharf, located at Lombard and Broad Streets in Charlestown, Georgetown.
In a statement released on Friday, the police explained that the seizure resulted from an intelligence-led operation coordinated by the Special Branch. The operation involved a search of “a blue jumbo barrel that was sealed and shipped from one Junior Skeet of Brooklyn, NY, USA, to Clive James of Durban Street, Lodge.”
The search took place in the presence of a 32-year-old customs officer. During the inspection, officers found nine sealed, transparent plastic bags with the words “California TRACKSTR” marked on them, containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The barrel, along with the suspected narcotic substance, was taken to the Crime Laboratory at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, where it was processed and photographed. “It was then weighed and amounted to 10.55 lbs (4.79 kilograms),” police said.
The suspected cannabis was subsequently placed into separate evidence bags, sealed, marked, and lodged at the Ruimveldt Police Station for further analysis at the Forensic Laboratory.
Clive James, the intended recipient of the barrel, has not been located. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to track him.
