Kaieteur News – A 50-year-old vagrant was on Friday sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to stealing women’s clothing.
The vagrant, identified as Junior McForlune, is accused of stealing a quantity of female clothing valued $90,000 from Tomica Nestor, a clothing vendor on July 6, 2024 at Regent Street.
On July 8, McForlune appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded.
McForlune made his second appearance on Friday before Magistrate Annette Singh, where he changed his plea to guilty and admitted to theft. Consequently, he was sentenced to three months in prison.
According to police statements, at around 18:30 hrs, the victim had packed up her merchandise and was awaiting assistance to move the bag containing female clothing.
The vagrant approached her and rendered assistance in moving the bags to a vehicle which was parked far away from where she was. While the accused was moving the bags, he took out the bag and told the victim he was finished working.
He then fled with the bag and made good his escape. McFlorlune was subsequently arrested and admitted to stealing the bag of clothes.
