Kaieteur News – Massy Stores Guyana opened its 6th location at the Giftland Mall, Lot 1 Plantation, Georgetown on Saturday replacing Giftland’s Foodmaxx Supermarket which closed doors recently.
Notwithstanding the fact that Foodmaxx Supermarket has been closed, the staff has been retained by Massy.
The new Massy Store stocks fresh produce, chilled and frozen meat, prepared food and a wide variety of local and foreign items.
Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, who attended the ribbon cutting exercise, said “The fact that Massy can determine to invest in its sixth store must inform us as Guyanese that Guyana’s economy is robust and it’s going up and up.”
The Minister said that entrepreneurs only invest in where they see opportunity and potential for growth.
“The fact that more stores are opening suggests (that) that more people have more money to spend and therefore it is important. That is why we (the Government) come in support for these ventures to help to cut ribbons,” Hamilton said.
Meanwhile, General Manager, Robert Singh said that the opening of the 6th location not only marks the beginning of a new venture but the realization of a dream to revolutionise shopping in Guyana.
“As I walk through the aisles of our magnificent supermarket, I couldn’t help but be filled with joy at the sight of our shelves stocked with the finest products,” the General Manager said.
Singh reveled that Massy’s commitment goes beyond merely providing goods on shelves. He said the store extends to fostering growth and opportunities within the community.
“Our expansion has not only created numerous job opportunities but also reaffirms our dedication to supporting local products and suppliers, ensuring that the bounty of our beautiful Guyana is showcased and celebrate on our shelves,” Singh said.
Similarly, Store Manager Elizabeth Mason was elated about the opening of the Giftland Mall branch of the Massy Store.
“Today marks a milestone, a momentous occasion that fills my heart with pride and gratitude as the manager of Massy Stores Giftland,” she said.
Mason added, “I am thrilled to stand before you, surrounded by vibrant energy of this bustling establishment. Opening these doors signifies more than just the birth of another store; it represents a promise… a promise to serve our community with dedication integrity and passion.”
Massy Stores is a regional supermarket chain with over 50 locations across the Caribbean including, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Barbados.
