Members of Guyana’s CARIFTA Games squad along with Minister Charles Ramson and members of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Kaieteur Sports – Guyana’s 23-member contingent for the CARIFTA Games in Grenada is set to depart the country today to compete in the 51st edition of the games, which commenced in 1972.
Yesterday, the team paid a courtesy visit to Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr. at his Main Street office, where they received words of encouragement to be exemplary ambassadors for Guyana.
Minister Ramson, whose office provided the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) with its largest financial backing for the CARIFTA Games, also issued a challenge to the athletes to surpass last year’s performance, where they secured 13 medals – three gold, two silver, and three bronze.
This year’s squad marks the largest representation from Guyana for the CARIFTA Games which is scheduled to take place from March 30 to April 1 at the Kirani James Stadium in St. George’s.
All eyes will be on Tianna Springer, who clinched gold in the 400m event last year and continued her winning streak in the 400m at the Commonwealth Youth Games and the South American U20 Championships in Athletics.
