(Kaieteur News) – Westside Golf Course will send an eight-member team to represent Guyana at the 2026 DSB Suriname Invitational Golf Championship, scheduled for October 17–18 at Golf Club Paramaribo in Suriname.
The Guyanese contingent will be led by Guyana Golf Association (GGA) President Aleem Hussain and Vice Presidents Monnaf Arjune and Philip Haynes.
They will be joined by some of the country’s leading players, including Lakeram “Panko” Ramsundar, as well as Guyanese-American/Canadian golfers Roy Dhori, Anwar Shaffie, Dustin Spivey and Sabi Dhori.
The team will compete in the A Category, where the Guyanese golfers are expected to face strong competition from players representing Suriname, French Guiana and other regional jurisdictions.

The Westside Golf team that will represent Guyana at the upcoming DSB Suriname Invitational Golf Championship.
The tournament provides another opportunity for Guyanese golfers to test their skills against regional opposition while strengthening the country’s presence on the regional golf circuit.
Golf Club Paramaribo, established in 1954, is the oldest golf club in Suriname and has played an important role in the development of the sport in the country.
Its long-standing involvement in regional competition has made the Suriname Invitational an important fixture for golfers seeking competitive exposure across the region.
The upcoming tournament also continues the GGA’s growing relationship with its Surinamese counterparts.
In recent years, the association has collaborated with Golf Club Paramaribo and local partners on initiatives aimed at promoting junior golf and introducing newcomers to the sport.
Among those initiatives is the Junior and Beginners Drive, Chip & Putt competition, which has brought young golfers from Guyana and Suriname together since 2023.
Aleem Hussain, GGA President, said the trip represents more than simply an opportunity to compete for individual honours.
“Westside Golf Course is proud to represent Guyana once again in Suriname. Our relationship with Golfclub Paramaribo has grown beyond competitive golf, particularly through our junior development initiatives,” Hussain said.
He added, “We see these regional exchanges as an important part of building stronger players and stronger relationships between our golfing communities. We extend our gratitude to Suriname Captain Sarah Chehin and the Golfclub Paramaribo Executive Committee for extending the invitation.”
The Westside team will now turn its attention to the October 17–18 championship, with the players expected to carry Guyana’s hopes of making an impact in the A Category.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the participation is expected to further strengthen the sporting ties between Guyana and Suriname while providing valuable international experience for the country’s golfers.
