Berbice reserves the right to be treated equitably

I watched with great interest the reopening of The Rose Hall Sugar Estate vis a viz and all the economic benefits that could accrue from it. The reopening of Rose Hall is a good thing, it is an indication of sound economic investment for the furtherance of development and progress in Berbice and the entire country as a whole.
This comes three years after the present government has taken office something that is to be commended. However, this has not gone down well with the naysayers who closed it down and has created a trail of destruction in the lives of thousands of Guyanese, theirs was the position that it should remain closed and let their demonic plan of the suffocation of a main PPP/C Power Base and having it crumble. But this is not to be, the hands of time are turning as we move forward and upward. The reopening of Rose Hall, used in the words of The President himself is a “No turning back issue.”
Now, as a Berbician myself, I bemoan the fact that my county could have been so neglected, especially by A PPP/C Government? Berbice from eons of time has been a bastion of PPP support and a place where the party can assuredly get over 76,000 solid votes, so, I am dumbfounded as to why we were treated so badly? My proposition stems from three main premise: (a) Since Dr. Cheddi all other leaders have come from other regions, which tells me that their interests are centered there, quite to the detriment of Berbice. The framers of economic prosperity labelled industries like The Sugar Industry as the productive sector, because it is a sector that produces, and one from which we can gain valuable foreign exchange, to neglect so pivotal a sector in society is disastrous.
(b) The inherited view that Berbicians are a people rich and increased in assets therefore, we have no need of anything.
In addition to these two reasons, is the condescending view that Berbicians are better off being in the field, “Boy yuh gon cut cane nuh,” it is a backward colonial view of my county that is still held in the thoughts of some of our leaders. Well that view was toppled when the party was voted out of office in The 2015 Election and that sent shockwaves in The PPP/C Camp. We might be a hardworking “cut-cane calibre of people,” but we are certainly not stupid, we know what it takes to build a country which is determination and hard work, therefore, we have dignity and self-worth. We reserve the right to be treated equitably, equal attention, and as a consequence, equal distribution of wealth.
